SSBN634 – John Fletcher on Eternal Patrol

Once again, I have the sad duty to notify our shipmates of the loss of one of our crew.

Navy Lt. John C. Fletcher, 72, of Ladson SC left for Eternal Patrol Thursday, April 6, 2017 at his residence. Memorial services were held on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Summerville Family Worship Center.  Mr. Fletcher was born on February 7, 1945 in Cook County, Illinois. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Grace Fletcher.

He was retired from the US Navy, where he served as a Fire Control Technician on the USS Charles S. Sperry, and as a Naval Navigator on submarines.  He served in USS Stonewall Jackson (SSBN 634) Gold Crew from 1981 to 1984 as an FTGC(SS).   He then began his career as an electrical engineer, and retired from Saint Gobain, Charleston in 2008. He then worked as an independent contractor with Saint Gobain until his death.

Mr. Fletcher loved spending time with his family, playing the guitar, and technology. He is survived by his wife, Connie D. Fletcher; his son, LCDR Jack C. Fletcher (Claire); five daughters, Susan Fletcher LaBarge (Van), Lind Sturdivant (Larry), Leigh Dixon, Lorrie Fitzwater, Lacee Cherry (Carlton) and Michael and Lesley Creel; fourteen grandchildren, Isabelle, Matilda and James Fletcher, Jacob and Hannah Sturdivant, Sarah Creel, Tyler and Morgan Bruns, Andrew, Matthew, Madison and Aiden Fitzwater and Jeremiah and Cylee Cherry; one great-grandaugher, Izabella Fitzwater; two sisters, Margie Krause and Candy Heitner (Bill); and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Bands of the Bay, Cane Bay High School, 1624 State Road, Summerville, SC.
