British military veterans affected by a long-running toxic water scandal in the US, say they feel let down by a lack of support from the Ministry of Defence (MoD)
‘We take safety seriously’
Responding to the BBC, the MoD said: “We take the safety of our personnel very seriously.” However, it did not answer a series of questions about the steps it had taken to publicise the toxic water scandal and the US compensation scheme.
A spokesman told us that British veterans who had served at Camp Lejeune – and believed their health was affected – could apply for compensation under the War Pension Scheme (WPS).
This offers compensation for any injury, illness or death caused by service before 2005.
However, the WPS has faced criticism for the high burden of proof required, and for not being open to posthumous claims by family members.
Foxnwolf comments…….
The MOD must have been aware of the water contamination scandal at Camp LJ, and have done nothing to publicise the fact to the british service men and women who have served there (in any capacity).
1… The timescale they listed thru the WPS is only up-to 2005
2… Not open to family members who may have accompanied them or who have already died after having the cancerous infections passed on
3… The criteria set to claim thru the MOD (WPS) is set too high and is literally impossible
I am one who has a claim going thru lawyers in the UK re bladder, pancreas and kidney issues, which has now been passed on to their Attorney counterparts in the US (all done on a no win no fee basis).
Found out about this water contamination last year thru various contacts. Also, contacted the MOD who at first didn’t even reply then referred me to the WPS.
But I had found a large company of Lawyers who were already taking this onboard so signed up to them, gave access to all my medical records etc.
My tip is, get your claim(s) in thru the Lawyers dealing in Manchester “https://www.hudgellsolicitors.co.uk/news/in-the-news/camp-lejeune-claims“. If your claim is acknowledged / paid even only in part then contact the WPS and claim again using all the UK / US paperwork to get further compensation even use the same UK lawyers if necessary on same terms as previously…
If you miss the claim date then press for advice from your Lawyers (link above) as you had no warning from the MOD and Camp LJ contamination not heavily advertised therefore not even GPs or Hospitals were aware…
Finally the MOD works under Common Law Practices (thats why you may need a lawyer) MOD link below (dont hold your breath).
