Death of Louis Pengelly-Phillips – who crossed the bar 24 June 2014, aged 89 years

Louis joined the Corps at age 18 in 1943. In summary, he has died with an elderly brother who lives in Australia and who is not well enough to attend the funeral and a niece in this country who has only ever met him a few times in her life. Louis served in the Corps between 1943-51. He crossed Gold beach on D Day (we understand possibly as part of 47 Cdo) and was in Churchill’s body guard at the Quebec Conference. Shot in the leg as he entered Germany having fought across France, he convalesced and later went to Burma, where he was involved in the liberation of Rangoon prior to leaving the Service in 1951.

After breaking his back in an industrial accident he became a resident of the Royal Star & Garter Home and lived there for 34 years; he was the home’s longest resident. They are effectively his family and have sought the Corps Family’s support to pay respects at his funeral.
Louis’ funeral is to be held on Wednesday 9th July at the Kingston-upon Thames Crematorium (KT1 3EZ).

You are encouraged to attend and pay appropriate respects to this senior member of the Corps Family and World War 2 veteran; it is hoped that as many Branch Standards as possible can also attend to show their respects. Attendance should be planned to be at the crematorium for 12:00; the cortege is expected to arrive at 12:20.

Thank you, in anticipation of a fantastic send-off for Louis!
