Waters Edge Nursing Home, Another Horror Story for one elderly resident

Woman declared dead at New York care centre found breathing at funeral home

The incident comes just a few weeks after a resident at an Iowa care home was pronounced dead and put in a body bag – before being found to be alive at the Ankeny Funeral Home and Crematory.

An investigation has been launched after an 82-year-old woman was pronounced dead at a New York nursing home – only to be found breathing three hours later at a funeral home.

The woman was said to be dead at Water’s Edge Rehab and Nursing Centre at Port Jefferson on Long Island at 11.15am on Saturday.

Suffolk County police said the woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to the OB Davis Funeral Homes in Miller Place at 1.30 pm.

She was discovered breathing at 2.09pm. She was taken to a hospital. No update on her condition was available on Monday.

The state attorney general and health department are investigating.

Authorities said a 66-year-old woman was also declared dead on 3 January, at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Centre in Urbandale, where she was receiving hospice care.

The woman was placed in a body bag and taken to the Ankeny Funeral Home and Crematory, where workers found she was breathing and called 911.

She was returned to hospice care, where she died on 5 January.

Foxnwolf comments…….

This repetition beggars belief. What on earth is going on with the operation of care facilities in the US of A.

Once is shocking enough but twice is deplorable. Do these people actuall know how to check a pulse ? there must be at least half a dozen pulse points on the human body. Checking the wrist only does not do it.

As previously stated in the other incident. I would be hauling my relatives or even close friends out of these “facilities” and place them in properly run and organized institutions.

As usual, no one will be held accountable and properly punished. That is why in the UK a Doctor or General Practitioner has to attend (unless in real hospital) and perform various tests prior to announcing that the individual is deceased.

Nurses in care homes doing these checks in care facilities are not good enough.

FOR GODS SAKE CALL A DOCTOR
