A visit to the re-opened D-Day Museum in Southsea.\u00a0 The Museum has been completely re-furbished and the entire D-Day and Battle of Normandy visitor experience re-presented, with many new artefacts and documents on display. \u00a0There is increased emphasis in the new galleries on the role of individual fighting units and also the impact of the invasion on the civilian populations on both sides of the English Channel. The D-Day embroidery is splendidly displayed, with accompanying information on its 22-year old designer and the team that produced it.<\/p>\n

We will have an introductory curatorial talk on arrival and then ample time to view the new exhibits and interactive screens.\u00a0\u00a0 Lunches will be available in the museum or at Rocksbys, the seafront restaurant a few minutes\u2019 walk away.<\/p>\n

Cost:\u00a0 \u00a317.50<\/strong>, including admission, coffee and a copy of the new souvenir guidebook. There is ample parking at the Museum and it is a short taxi ride from the Hard.<\/p>\n

A visit to the Diving Museum at Stokes Bay at 10.15 am and the nearby Hovercraft Museum in Lee-on-the Solent at 2.30 pm.\u00a0 Lunch at the adjacent Bayside Cabin restaurant is included.\u00a0 At each museum there will be an introductory talk and volunteers on hand to guide members around the exhibits. Both the museums have undergone significant development in recent times and important new exhibits acquired.<\/p>\n

There is ample parking at both museums. The Diving Museum is a short taxi ride from the Gosport Ferry.\u00a0 Lifts to the Hovercraft Museum after lunch will be arranged for members not arriving by car.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>The venue will be the restaurant on the mezzanine floor in Boathouse 4 in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. (12.15 pm for 12.30pm). \u00a0\u00a0After lunch Ivan Steele, who leads the NMRN\u2019s Steam Pinnace 199 volunteer team, will recount the story of 199 and tell us what 2018 holds for her.\u00a0 It is expected that she will be berthed inside BH4 for members to view her and go aboard.\u00a0 The afternoon will also be an opportunity to see the International Boatbuilding College facilities and the restoration projects currently in progress there.<\/p>\n
